My Summer Schools in 2026 Overview (Work in Progress)

To explore my academic direction and talk to PhD students working in more theoretical areas of computer science, I decided to spend the summer attending five summer schools related to this field.

I will do my best to review and organize the lectures, and I will write about my takeaways soon on my blog.

α. Summer School on Strings & Privacy

  • Date: June 13th and 14th, 2026
  • Location: Danmarks Tekniske Universitet

It was my first time speaking English with so many people, and everyone was very kind. They understood my level of English and took good care of me. On the recommendation of a couple of Danish PhD students, I tried Danish specialties, and I also rowed a boat with two PhD students from DTU.

Although the event lasted only two days, I learned a lot from the experience, including how to approach a new field, how to work with definitions in proofs, and many other things.

The topic was differential privacy on strings. The level of the first day was just right for me. I learned about the concept of differential privacy and how it can be applied to strings. It was also the first time I truly felt the charm of mathematical proofs. I really enjoyed the process. However, on the second day, I clearly began to struggle to keep up. Overall, it was very nice!

Thanks so much for everyone in this summer school!

β. Learning Theory Summer School

  • Date: June 22-25, 2026
  • Location: Københavns Universitet

This was a truly fantastic summer school for me. It was the first edition of the LTSS, and I learned about many different topics in learning theory. I also met many PhD students there and had the chance to talk with them.

Thanks to Thomas, Michał, and Aurélien, I spent a wonderful evening with them watching World Cup matches.

Thanks to Adrian, who accompanied me throughout the summer school. His help meant a lot to me, including the experience he shared with me, his understanding, and many other things. I am very glad to have met him.

Special thanks to Xianliang. We talked about AI, business, TCS, and much more. We also spent a very chill day in Helsingør. His advice was extremely valuable to me and made me feel as if I had saved a whole year. It not only helped me learn more about TCS, but also made me reflect more deeply on my own academic direction.
